Many C130 Hercules and P-3 Orion operators around the world have started to recognise that the T56 Quick Engine Change Unit (QECU) has been neglected during normal engine and airframe overhaul cycles. To address this gap in what is a key component of the aircraft structure the Royal New Zealand Air Force and subsequently the Royal Australian Air Force commissioned Safe Air to carry out essential overhaul servicing packages.

Safe Air has successfully developed a T56 QECU overhaul programme to meet and exceed United States Air Force TO 1C-130B-10 Para 4-21 to 4-28 Inspection Requirements for Quick Engine Change Unit (QECU) for P/N 362503-7 (C-130) and likewise United States Navy NA01-75PAA-2-4.1 WP 022 (QEC) for P/N 959515-139 (P-3). It covers all the required structural elements to ensure the serviceability of the Quick Engine Change Unit (QECU).
This includes:
- V Frame end fitting repair (P-3).
- Nose Cowl isolation mount replacement or repair (P-3).
- Lower Cowl skin/longeron/frame corrosion repairs (P-3).
- Upper and lower longeron corrosion repair/replacement (C-130).
- Lower Cowl longeron cracking/damage repair (C-130).
- Firewall corrosion repair (C-130).
- Full thrust line alignment in calibrated build jigs (P-3 & C-130)
