Electroplating Facility

Our specialist services include:

Electroplating

Our specialist electroplating engineers carry out a wide range of plating processes using our large, state-of-the-art facility. Our capability includes passivation of stainless steel, electroplating, anodising, bronze plating, chemical cleaning and etching.

Painting and stripping

Aircraft painted by Safe Air include the C-130 Hercules, P-3 Orion, BAe 146, 737 and Beech 1900D. The main paint shop can accept vehicles and large flight control surfaces. One of our large maintenance hangars is equipped for the complete stripping and painting of large aircraft. Plastic media blasting is available as an alternative to wet stripping.

Heat treatment

We can accommodate heat treatment of alloy steels, the solution and precipitation of aluminium alloys, through to the stress relief of aero engine components.

Non-destructive testing

We provide a full range of NDT services, both on site and in the field. Methods used include visual, magnetic particle, fluorescent penetrant, eddy current, ultrasonic and X-ray. All technicians are trained and qualified to NAS 410 and ASNT Level 2. Level 3 services are provided by an approved outside agency.

We maintain compliance with a wide variety of NDT standards and specifications to satisfy the requirements of manufacturers and customers, including:

Royal New Zealand Air Force, Royal Australian Air Force, United States Military, Dowty, Hamilton Sundstrand, McCauley, Hartzell, Pratt and Whitney, Rolls Royce, Qantas Defence Systems, Air New Zealand, and Kaman Aerospace Corporation.

Metrology, calibration and optical alignment

Our metrology capacity includes all equipment and experience to support propeller, gas turbine and airframe overhaul, as well as manufacturing. This includes flatness, hardness tester, tensile tester, profile comparator, electrical conductivity tester and optical alignment.

Our optical alignment services include measuring jigs for certification, checking structural damage and evaluating machine tools for runout and wear. We provide a Certificate of Calibration, including aeronautical certification.
